What is solar inverter?

Solar inverter

As global awareness of environmental protection grows, with a growing interest in renewable energy, the interest in solar energy systems is growing at an alarming rate. So, what’s the reason? Solar energy is not only clean and environmentally friendly, but also inexhaustible. The trend is for solar energy to become a popular choice for people!

But speaking of solar systemssolar systems, do you really know what they consist of and what types they are? A complete solar system consists of PV panels, solar inverter and battery.

What is solar inverter?

Actually, inverters are especially important in solar systems. But what is it? Most homes use alternating current instead of direct current, so the energy produced by solar panels cannot be used directly. The purpose of solar panels is to collect sunlight and convert it into energy. The energy is then sent to an inverter, which turns it into energy. An inverter converts DC power into AC power to power your appliances and electronic devices, and it can be fed back into the grid if you produce more power than you need.

To be short, It converts the energy output of solar panels into a usable form of electricity for domestic as well as commercial and industrial use. Suitable for schools, hotels, supermarkets, small industrial parks, resort and construction sites, etc.

What are the types of solar inverters?

Now that you know what a solar inverter is, it’s time to learn about the different types of inverters. There are different types with respective features, each of them works slightly differently, pls check the details as follows:

  1. Off-Grid Inverter

It refers to inverters that do not rely on the power grid and cannot operate simultaneously with the power grid, by generating AC output in the form of square waves or sine waves to provide power for independent systems, that is to say, through the solar energy system and off-grid inverters to convert direct current in batteries into alternating current to provide self-sufficient household power supply facilities.

  1. On-Grid Inverter

After on-grid inverter converts DC power into AC power for output, the frequency and phase of its current can be synchronized with the mains power, so that the AC power it outputs can be returned to the mains power. Therefore, grid-connected inverters are often used in solar photovoltaic power generation systems. It can meet the needs of small power generation and can also be applied to large power generation systems.

The biggest difference between on-ogrid inverters and off-grid inverters is that they do not use any battery storage. The DC power generated from the solar panels is directly converted into AC power through inverter and directly fed to the public power grid.

  1. Hybrid Inverter

Hybrid inverters, also known as ‘multi-mode inverters’, allow you to connect batteries to a solar system. It is connected to the connected batteries through “DC coupling” (when both the solar and batteries use an inverter and the DC power from the solar panels charges the batteries through a DC charger), and its electronics take care of the charging and discharging of the batteries.

  1. Single Phase Inverter

An inverter is a device that converts direct current into alternating current. Single-phase inverters convert the output AC voltage to single-phase, such as AC 220V or 230V.

The interface of single-phase inverter has three jacks, respectively labeled “N”, “L”, “PE”: L is for the fire wire, red or brown; N is the zero wire, which is blue or white; PE is the ground wire, which is yellow and green.

  1. Three Phase Inverter

Three-phase inverter is a high-power inverter power supply for electric power, which is mainly used in military, communication, factory and enterprise uninterruptible power supply system. It is mainly composed of power electronic devices, giant transistors and switchable thyristors to form the main circuit, which is the crystallization of the development of power semiconductor devices.

  1. Split Phase Inverter

The split-phase inverter is designed specifically for the U.S. market and consists of an inverter and a transformer capable of meeting a battery voltage range of 85~400V, making it suitable for use in high-capacity home energy storage systems in North America.

  1. Microinverters

As the name suggests, microinverters are very small (the size of a book!) The ratio of solar panels to microinverters is 1:1. One of the benefits of microinverters is that they can be optimized individually for each solar panel, thus providing more energy (especially in shady conditions).

When considering the many different inverter brands, types and sizes, there are a few things you can look for when choosing a quality solar inverter. These include: certifications for inverters and what size solar inverter is best. After understanding these points, the thing you need to do is to choose the right inverter according to your needs and it can be used normally according to instructions.
